Penn State football’s total wins matches its ranking in the latest AP Poll released on Sunday afternoon with the Nittany Lions slotted at the No. 4 spot, jumping up two places from No. 6 last week. It’s the highest ranking for the program since the 2017 season.

Now the highest ranked team in the Big Ten, Penn State is one spot ahead of No. 5 Iowa who the Nittany Lions will travel to face after next week’s home clash against Indiana under the lights. The Hoosiers are unranked at 2-2 on the year having narrowly defeated Western Kentucky 33-31 on Saturday evening.

Ohio State is currently ranked the No. 11 team in the nation while Michigan sits at No. 14 and Michigan State comes in at No. 17 to round out the Big Ten representation in the poll.

Penn State’s Week 3 opponent in Auburn escaped with a win on Saturday and jumped up one spot to No. 22 on Sunday while the Nittany Lions’ Week 1 opponent in Wisconsin fell to Notre Dame and is now unranked but still receiving votes in the poll.

The Nittany Lions are looking to avenge a Week 1 loss to Indiana in 2020 that went down to the wire with a controversial overtime finish and review.
