Tornado Watch Announced for State College, Surrounding Areas

UPDATE @ 6:58 p.m. May 26: The National Weather Service also has announced a severe thunderstorm warning for much of Centre County, AccuWeather.com reported. It will be in effect until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, and it includes the State College area.

A tornado watch remains in effect, too. Earlier coverage is posted below.

The National Weather Service has announced a tornado watch Thursday for a broad swath of central Pennsylvania, including Centre County, according to an AccuWeather.com post.

In effect until 10 p.m., the watch also applies to nearby Blair, Clinton, Huntingdon and Mifflin counties. A full list of affected counties is available at AccuWeather.com.

The State College-based weather company has forecast a strong thunderstorm and a high of 86 degrees Thursday in State College. A couple more thunderstorms are expected to materialize Friday, as well; the high then will be 80 degrees, according to AccuWeather.com.
