State College is set to get a taste of some nineties rock, as the
alternative band The Lemonheads is scheduled to roll into town in
February. The Lemonheads, an early nineties alternative group who
reformed in early 2006, are set to arrive in State College for their
winter tour, only their second set of dates following last year<92>s
regrouping.
The band, who is best known for the hits <93>It<92>s a
Shame About Ray<94> and a cover of Simon and Garfunkel<92>s <93>Mrs. Robinson<94>,
among others, has been getting considerable attention for their return
to touring and recording. Mojo Magazine, a music journal, has gone as
far as calling The Lemonhead<92>s performances <93><85>high-velocity melody
thrills played with relish by hardcore zealots – suffused with the
pop-smart synthesis of heat-haze and endorphins<85><94> The band has also
been lauded for playing long, energetic shows, sometimes playing as
many as 35 songs in one night.
This new wave of touring follows
the band<92>s 2006 release of their first album in almost ten years, the
self-titled The Lemonheads, put out on Vagrant Records. Lead singer and
founding member Evan Dando has teamed up with some of his early
influences, aiming to produce the kind of adult pop-punk which puts the
work of contemporary <93>teenage<94> pop-punk bands to shame.
The
Lemonheads arrive February 19th at Lulu<92>s Bar on Pugh Street. Check
back at our Bar Tour section for more information as it becomes
available, including the time of the show. If you can<92>t make The
Lemonheads, remember that our Bar Tour section includes information
about all sorts of great shows being performed in downtown State
College.
