It is the last weekend in February and hopefully the last weekend of snow. Lucky for State College residents there is plenty going on to keep you occupied inside.

Friday

There are many activities students or for families to partake in all over town!

Before you go out and enjoy the activities around town you better fill up those empty stomachs. The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church at 1840 Centre Line Rd., Warriors Mark, PA, 16877 is hosting a fish fry from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. $8 for adults, $4 for ages 5-10,free for ages 4 and under! The menus includes Deep Fried Fish, Baked Fish, Shepherd’s Pie, Harvard Beets, Succotash, Tossed Salad, Roll, & Assorted Desserts. 

Ice Skating can be a lot of fun to do with their friends and families, but tomorrow is going to be a little cold. So the Penn State Ice Rink is offering an enclosed ice arena starting at 5 p.m. No skates? Well you are in luck, the ice rink offers hockey and figure skates for rental. Rather not participate in activities that involve you bundling up?  Go on a laser tag outing at What-A-Blast Laser tag!! If running around with laser guns is not your thing, why not do something good for the community?  Whiplash Dance Team presents RAISE at The State Theatre at 8 p.m. their first annual benefit show for the John F. Carothers Scholarship Fund.  John Carothers passed away last year due to complications due to multiple sclerosis.  Mr. Carothers, a graduate of Penn State set up the fund in his son’s name.  Many local dance studios, professional dance companies and Penn State dance groups will be showcasing their skills on stage.  It is $15, for more information visit https://www.clubs.psu.edu/up/whiplash/

 

Friday night is a great night for some live music in State College and the options are endless!

The Penn State School of Music is hosting the annual Celebration of African American Music festival at 2:30 p.m. in the Esber Recital Hall, Music Building 1.  Only $2 for students and $4.99 for adults. For more information visit https://www.music.psu.edu/upcoming

 

For all you country music Fans Jason Aldean is heading to the BJC!  Aldean is currently one of the hottest acts in country and he is going to be embracing the stage with his chart topping hits at 7:30 p.mTickets are still available at all campus/downtown box offices and on ticketmaster.com!

 

All I need is a little rock and roll to get my weekend started. The Dunnie Bobos and KGB are going to be rocking Café 210 from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m for only $3.  This will be the Dunnie Bobos first time in State College and if you are a fan of anything form the Kings of Leon to the Black Keys this will be your kind of concert! For the Sports Fan

The Penn State Icers are taking on Robert Morris at 9 p.m. in the Greenberg Ice Pavilion.

 

 

 

 

Saturday is going to be a little crazy in downtown State College so here are some options to enjoy that won’t get you mixed up in the riff-raff.

 

For the Family, bring your kids to see stories come alive at the Schlow Centre Region Library at 11 a.m. Free, no-registration, story time for children between the ages of 2 and 7. 

 

Take the Family for a snow tubing, skiing or snowboarding trip to Tussey Mountain!  There are mountains for all levels of experience check there website for more information. www.tusseymountain.com If you wait until after 7 p.m. all access lift tickets are only $16!

 

Need a sports fix?

Penn State Men’s Tennis is taking on Cornell at the Sarni Tennis Center promptly at noon.

Sometimes a lazy Sunday is the perfect end to a busy weekend.

 Good movies are all over downtown.

 

 At 1 p.m. The State Theatre is showing “Throw Down Your Heart”. This film follows world-renowned banjoist Bela Fleck on a pilgrimage to Africa to rediscover the banjo’s folk music roots. The film is full of good music that will warm your soul. Tickets are $5*, and receive $2 off with a ticket to the Wednesday March 3rd Béla Fleck show at Eisenhower Auditorium!


Heath Ledger’s last movie will be playing at The State Theatre; “Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” If the joker wasn’t enough, this movie brings an even darker side of Ledger. You want a little bit more live action? The Penn State School of Theatre is performing “Sunday in the Park with George.”  This play is a moving study of the painter Geroges Seurat and won a Pulitzer Prize in 1984. Football season is over, so if you need your sports fix there are plenty of chances on Sunday.

 

All day long the Penn State Women track team will be competing for the Big Ten Indoor Track Championships at the Ashenfelter Track.

 

Penn State Men’s basketball will be going against Northwestern.  Check out this game at noon at the BJC.
