After a brief dose of mild temperatures, winter weather is returning to central Pennsylvania this week.

The National Weather Service at State College has issued a winter storm warning from midnight through 11 a.m. Tuesday for Centre County. Heavy snow is expected with total accumulations of 5 to 8 inches.

Precipitation will start as rain before changing to snow overnight. The heaviest snow will occur between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., according to AccuWeather, which forecasts 4 to 8 inches of wet heavy snow for most of Centre County.
