Centre County Adds 34 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 2,577

Centre County reported 34 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday to bring its total to 13,000, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 2,577 positives, bringing its total to 938,411.

The county also had 127 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 61,502. Across Pennsylvania there were 8,368 new negatives for a total of 3,906,535.

DOH reported one new death attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, bringing the county’s total to 211.

With 69 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide Pennsylvania’s total is now 24,169.

Mount Nittany Medical Center is currently treating 12 COVID-19 inpatients, three fewer than on Tuesday. The patients range in age from 24 to 84, according to a hospital spokesperson.

COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide continue to decline. Across Pennsylvania on Tuesday, 1,648 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 357 in intensive care and 186 on ventilators.

Nursing and personal care homes in Centre County reported two new COVID-19 case among residents. A total of 18 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 709 resident cases, 147 employee cases and 161 resident deaths.

An estimated 90% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.

A total of 26,158 people in Centre County have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, including 12,278 who are fully covered with both required doses, according to health department data.

Gov. Tom Wolf announced on Wednesday that Pennsylvania will use the newly authorized Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine for PreK-12 teachers and other school staff. Pennsylvania will receive its first 94,600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine this week and the state will work with intermediate units to establish vaccination sites. The Pennsylvania National Guard and AMI Expeditionary Healthcare (AMI) will administer the vaccine.

Each intermediate unit region will have at least one vaccination location with most locations starting vaccinations between March 10 and 13. Eligible school staff will receive information about vaccine locations and registration instructions.

Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 806,688 are confirmed and 131,723 are probable. In Centre County, 11,942 are confirmed and 1,058 are probable.
