Centre County Adds 55 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 5,984

Centre County reported 55 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday to bring its total to 10,357, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 5,984 new positives, bringing the statewide total to 783,170.

The county also had 157 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 55,074. Across Pennsylvania there were 12,813 new negatives for a total of 3,507,092.

The health department reported two new COVID-19 deaths among Centre County residents to bring the total to 175. Coroner Scott Sayers has confirmed 122 deaths in Centre County, ranging in age from 55 to 104.

With 401 new COVID-19 deaths reported, Pennsylvania’s total is now 19,868. According to DOH, 78% of the new deaths reported on Wednesday occurred over the past 10 days. The remainder occurred in late December and early January.

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 36 COVID-19 inpatients as of Wednesday morning, a decrease of five since Tuesday. The patients range in age from 30 to 101 , according to a hospital spokesperson.

Statewide, 4,882 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 889 in intensive care and 546 on ventilators.

An estimated 78% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 689,913 are confirmed and 93,257 are probable. In Centre County, 9,662 are confirmed and 695 are probable.
