Centre County Adds 9 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 484 New Positives

Centre County recorded nine new COVID-19 cases on Monday, its first time in a week without a double-digit increase.

The new cases bring the county’s total to 35,221 (31,270 confirmed and 3,951 probable) since March 2020. Centre County’s seven-day moving average for new cases is 16.4, up from 7.7 a week ago and its highest average since March 7.

Pennsylvania registered 484 new cases bring the statewide total to 2,789,746.

The commonwealth’s seven-day average is 843, up from 632 a week ago and the highest since March 12.

Hospitalizations

Five COVID-19 inpatients are hospitalized in Centre County, unchanged from Sunday, according to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard. None are in intensive care or on ventilators.

Statewide, 411 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Pennsylvania, two fewer than on Sunday, with 61 in intensive care [+2] and 46 on ventilators [+1].

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus, keeping the total at 348.

With one new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 44,425.

Community level

Centre County remains at the “low” community level for COVID-19 for the fifth consecutive week, according to the Centers for Disease Control’s latest update on Thursday.

Introduced on Feb. 25, community levels measure not only new cases, but also new hospitalizations and local hospital capacity to determine mitigation guidelines. At the low level, there is no recommendation for indoor masking.

Statewide, 64 of 67 counties are at the low level, with Bradford, Sullivan and Susquehanna at the medium level. At the medium level, the CDC recommends masks indoors in public for those at risk of severe illness. At the high level, universal indoor public masking is recommended.

Prison cases

Centre County’s two state prisons — Benner and Rockview — have no COVID-19 cases among inmates, and one each among staff, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

At Benner, 1,394 inmates are fully vaccinated, 20 are partially vaccinated and 197 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 310 are fully vaccinated and 319 are not vaccinated.

At Rockview, 1,712 inmates are fully vaccinated, three are partially vaccinated and 83 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 351 are fully vaccinated and 367 are not vaccinated.

Vaccinations

As of Monday morning, 95,018 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 18 since Sunday, and 14,233 are partially covered [+2]. Booster doses have been administered to 50,124 county residents [+20].

Among the county’s entire population, 70% have received at least one dose, 59.5% are fully vaccinated and 51.5% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 75.4% have received at least one dose, 63.7% are fully vaccinated and 54.1% have received a booster.

Statewide, 77.3% of adults and 67.9% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

Vaccination appointments are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.

All individuals age 12 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot. All individuals 50 and older and certain immunocompromised individuals are now eligible for a second booster shot.
