BELLEFONTE  — Centre County Treasurer Colleen Kennedy recently announced that 2026 dog licenses will be available for sale.. State law requires all dogs three months and older to be licensed by Jan. 1 of each year. Licenses can be purchased at the following locations throughout Centre County:

HOSTERMAN & STOVER HARDWARE – Millheim

Annual dog licenses can also be purchased online by visiting www.centrecountypa.gov/treasure. A convenience fee applies.

The fee for an annual license increases to $10.80, or a reduced fee of $8.80 for seniors and people with qualifying disability status under the Dog Law. Lifetime licenses are only available from the Treasurer’s office for dogs that have either a microchip or tattoo, with confirmation from a veterinarian or kennel.

Treasurer Kennedy reminds residents that the cost of a license is far less than the penalty for being caught without one. Owners who fail to license their dogs can face a fine of up to $500, plus court costs, for each unlicensed dog.

License fees support animal control and public safety. The annual fee to license a dog helps keep shelters running and supports the Pennsylvania Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement’s vital services to protect dogs and the public.
