ACAP Centre County to present free program on hospice and palliative care

Centre County Gazette

STATE COLLEGE — ACAP Centre County will host a free educational program, “Introduction to Hospice and Palliative Care,” on Tuesday, March 10 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Centre Region Active Adult Center, Nittany Mall, 2901 E. College Ave., Suite 990, State College.

When a loved one is facing a serious illness, families are often confronted with complex decisions about care. Hospice and palliative care both focus on easing symptoms and reducing stress, improving quality of life for patients and their families. However, the two services differ in important ways — particularly in timing, eligibility, and the scope of care provided.

This program is designed to help adult children and caregivers better understand these differences and learn how each approach can offer compassionate, supportive care when it is needed most. Participants will gain clarity about when hospice or palliative care may be appropriate, how services are delivered, and how families can access support.

The program will be presented by Taylor Brookens, community liaison with Grane Hospice, who will provide practical information and answer questions to help families feel more informed and confident in navigating care decisions.

ACAP Centre County is a chapter of ACAPcommunity, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting adult children caring for aging parents. The chapter offers free monthly educational programs that provide reliable information, helpful resources, and a supportive community for caregivers.

The program is free and open to the public, but registration is encouraged.
