ORBISONIA — Out there in the beautiful mountains of Pennsylvania, it’s all aboard for the Pumpkin Patch Express, powered by a real steam engine on the historic East Broad Top Railroad.
No screams, scary stuff or nightmares, just beautiful fall scenery, pumpkins and harvest festival fun. So, plan now to put on your nice Halloween costume and get onboard. Join in the fun and ride on a 150-year-old little railroad to the pumpkin patch.
The two-and-one-half-hour experience includes a 60-minute, nine-mile round-trip train ride through the scenic Aughwick Valley to enjoy 90 minutes at the pumpkin patch on Oct. 10/11, 17, 18, 14, 15 and 31. Trains depart at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. The vintage steam train features comfy enclosed passenger cars, popular open-air cars, or even an authentic caboose. One of the East Broad Top’s passenger cars is wheelchair accessible.
Passengers will disembark at the Colgate Grove picnic ground for one hour and 30 minutes, enjoying a variety of food, fun activities and picking out their pumpkin. Activities include a costume contest, hay bale wagon rides, horseshoes/cornhole, mini-golf, bouncy house, races, pumpkin decorating and a fire pit. There is a costume contest for each train departure. Food trucks will be on-site, and adults can enjoy a beverage from the Juniata Brewing Company Beer van.
