CENTRE COUNTY — One of Centre County’s most beloved summer traditions is set to return on July 4 as Central PA 4th Fest once again brings the community together for a day filled with patriotism, family fun and celebration.

For many local families, the event has become as much a part of Independence Day as backyard cookouts and waving American flags. From runners lacing up their sneakers at sunrise to families gathering under the evening sky for fireworks, 4th Fest offers something for every generation.

The day begins with the annual Firecracker 4K, which will once again send participants across Penn State’s campus in a festive run and walk celebrating America’s birthday. Organizers expect hundreds of runners and walkers to take part in the event, many dressed in patriotic colors as they help kick off the holiday festivities.

Later in the morning, the Independence Day Parade will make its way through downtown State College, continuing a tradition that brings together community organizations, local businesses, performers, veterans’ groups and families in a colorful display of hometown pride. The parade remains a centerpiece of the holiday and offers residents a chance to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday alongside neighbors and friends.

This year’s celebration will feature a more focused footprint centered at Medlar Field. Organizers say the change reflects efforts to create a sustainable event while maintaining the community spirit that has defined 4th Fest for decades. Festivities at the ballpark begin later in the afternoon and will include family-friendly activities, entertainment and opportunities for residents and visitors to gather before the evening finale.

Of course, the highlight for many will once again be the fireworks.

For generations, the Central PA 4th Fest fireworks display has been one of the region’s signature summer events, drawing spectators from across Pennsylvania. Choreographed to music and launched above the Penn State area skyline, the show has earned national recognition and remains a source of pride for the community.

While some details may look different this year, the heart of 4th Fest remains unchanged: neighbors coming together to celebrate freedom, community and the traditions that make Centre County special.

As another Independence Day arrives, 4th Fest stands ready to create new memories while honoring the spirit that has made the celebration a local favorite for more than two decades.
