STATE COLEGE — It is time for The Centre County Gazette to name its Athlete of the Month, but since it’s summer and golf season, we have decided to refer to the 2025-26 golf season to choose our athlete.
There were several players from the State College golf team that stood out in the past year, not only in the regular season but in the District 6 Tournament, the Regional Tournament and the PIAA State Tournament.
And since those players were so close in their performances — they were just five shots apart in the PIAA Team Tournament — we decided to name the entire State College PIAA golf team as our Athletes of the Month.
The team of Charlie Ladrido, Brady Wager, Luke Ladrido, Luke McGraw and Jacky Sun won the District 6 team championship and finished a close second in the PIAA team championships held at the Penn State Blue Course.
In the PIAA tournament, Charlie Ladrido shot a 69, Wager, 71, Luke Ladrido, 73, and McGraw and Sun each shot 74.
The team tied with Radnor at 1-under par 287, just one stroke behind No. 1 Unionville’s 286.
In the District 6 Championships, Charlie Ladrido and McGraw led the team to the Team Championships with even-par 72s, while Charlie won the Individual Championship in extra holes.
Charlie Ladrido is going into his senior year at State College and is also a varsity lacrosse player, while Wager was a senior in 2026 and will continue to play competitive golf at Millersville University.
Luke McGraw is going into his senior year at SC and will return to the team for the ‘26-27 season as will Luke Ladrido who is also a junior.
Junior Jacky Sun rounds out what is an extremely strong returning senior class for the Little Lions.
The 2026-27 high school golf season is set to begin shortly and the State College team will certainly be high on any pre-season championship Lists.
