PHILIPSBURG — Isaak Bloom’s 77 was good to share medalist honors with Tyrone’s Luke Brooks and R.J. Royer as the Bellefonte Area High School boys’ golf team improved to 16-3 by going 4-2 in a Mountain League match at the Philipsburg Elks Lodge & Country Club on Monday, Sept. 13.
The Raiders finished with a team round of 339, eight shots ahead of Philipsburg-Osceola for third in the seven-team match. Tyrone went 7-0 by firing a 329. Hollidaysburg finished one stroke ahead of Bellefonte for second.
Penns Valley shot 446 to place seventh.
Philipsburg-Osceola’s Oliver Harpster notched the second-best individual score among Centre County competitors with an 81. Kolby Hahn shot an 85.
Evan Braughler turned in the second-lowest score for Bellefonte with an 86. Davis Corman and Michael Henry’s 88s and Caleb Stock’s 89 rounded out the Raiders’ scoring with Keith Hamilton missing the cut by one shot.
Logan Phillipi shot an 87 and Zach Kolbe and Jake DeSimone shot 94s for Philipsburg-Osceola.
Calvin Grenoble shot Penns Valley’s low round of 97. Bald Eagle Area did not have enough golfers to score as a team, but the Eagles’ Noah Foltz fired a 93 as one of two competitors for his school.
Bellefonte went 5-1 at a Mountain League match on Thursday, Sept. 9 at Huntingdon Country Club. The Raiders shot 345 as a team, led by Corman at 84, Bloom at 85 and Hamilton 86, while Tyrone scored 332 behind Cassidy Miksich’s medalist round of 78. Stock shot 90 for Bellefonte.
Harpster carded a 92 and Siler Dixon a 94 to top P-O, which finished fifth with a total of 384. Kolbe registered a 98 and Philipi 100. Grenoble’s 105 paced Penns Valley, which finished with a 475.
BELLEFONTE GIRLS
Riley Clute’s 46 was good for medalist as the Bellefonte girls went 2-1 in a Mountain League match at Clearfield Curwensville Country Club on Wednesday, Sept. 8. The Lady Raiders scored 173, six strokes behind Hollidaysburg but nine ahead of Philipsburg-Osceola and 66 up on Clearfield.
Emmalin Pringle shot the next-lowest score for Bellefonte, a 61. Sydney Hamilton, meanwhile, shot 66.
Abby Vaux carded a 57 to lead Philipsburg-Osceola, which also received rounds of 61 and 64 from Camden Potter and Evy Reed, respectively.
STATE COLLEGE BOYS
State College and Central Dauphin finished knotted at 334 in a six-team Mid-Penn Conference boys’ match at Centre Hills Country Club’s New Nine on Sept. 13.
The Little Lions’ Luke Janac was medalist with a score of 78, one better than teammate John Olsen. State College’s A.J. Corsen was tied for 11th with a round of 86, while Thomas Hay checked in at 88 and Joey Sabol 89. Solomon Liebert just missed the team scoring cut with a 90.
State College went 4-1 in another six-team Mid-Penn Competition on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at Sportman’s Country Club. The Little Lions, led by Olsen’s even-par 71, shot 308 as a team, eight shots behind Central Dauphin but ahead of Cumberland Valley (314), Chambersburg (338), Hershey (341) and Lower Dauphin (346).
Cumberland Valley’s Brady Davidson was medalist, four strokes ahead of Olsen. Janac was tied for sixth individually with a round of 76, Wager shot 79, Corson and Tanner Mona each finished with an 82, Sabol recorded an 86 and Liebert notched a 92.
Despite Olsen’s medalist effort of 71, State College finished third in a Mid-Penn match at Armitage Country Club in Mechanicsburg on Sept. 8. The Little Lions shot 321, while Central Dauphin shot 307 and Cumberland Valley 319.
Olsen’s round was four strokes better than second-place Jake Shmonov of Central Dauphin.
Sabol and Wager had the next-best round for State with 82s to be part of a three-way tie for 12th. Mona hit an 85, Leighton Smithwick an 86 and Thomas Hay an 88.
STATE COLLEGE GIRLS
Amber Kissinger tied for sixth with a round of 86 to lead the State College girls in a Mid-Penn match at Carlisle Barracks Golf Course on Sept. 9.
The Lady Little Lions’ Sarah Huang checked in at 97 and Hannah Kopac carded a 100. Camp Hill’s Paige Flichter was five strokes better than the field with her 73.
On Tuesday, Sept. 7, Kissinger shot an 85 to finish third in a Mid-Penn match at Sportsman’s Country Club. Camp Hill’s Willox Dixon led the pack with an 80 and Cumberland Valley’s Emily McAnnich was second with an 83.
Huang and Kopac each shot 104 for the Lady Little Lions.
ST. JOSEPH’S
Tim Peters’ medal round of an even-par 70 wasn’t enough as St. Joseph’s fell to host Altoona, 412-468, at Park Hills Country Club on Sept. 13.Dimitri Cornali shot 87, Chris Warner 88, Jun Park 105 and Jake Nichols 117 for the WolfPack, who slipped to 6-7.
