CENTRE COUNTY — The Bald Eagle Area girls’ volleyball team took out 7-2 Hopewell in the first round of the PIAA 2-A volleyball tournament, but the Lady Eagles could not get past undefeated Corry High School.
Opening the tournament at home on Nov. 4, BEA stayed clear of the District 7 runner-up Hopewell with a 3-0, 25-11, 27-25, 25-21 victory that stamped the team’s ticket into the quarterfinals.
Leah Bryan had a dominating match with 24 kills while Emily Smith added another 11 and Kendall Gavlock with six.
The team totaled 43 digs in the match, and Casey Angellotti handed out 32 assists.
The win was the 21st for BEA against just three losses in 2025. The win sent the team to meet Corry, the District 10 champion, at Clarion University on Nov. 8.
Corry came into the match with a perfect 18-0 record and after a 3-0 victory over Waynesburg Central (21-2) in the first round.

The match began with Corry throwing BEA off balance with a strong, 25-17 win in the first set.
Unfortunately for the Lady Eagles, they would not be able to recover from that start and ultimately suffered a 3-0 loss.
Corry kept it going through the second set with a 25-14 win and then closed the match out with a 25-15 win in the third set.
Bryan again led in kills with six, while Emily Smith had five and Gavlock four. Nora Eppley had 16 digs and Bryan had seven, while Angellotti handed out 18 assists.
BEA season came to an end with a final record of 21-4, a LHAC Title, and a District 6, 2-A championship.
The team will lose seniors Bryan, Eppley and Angellotti. The team will return nine players from the current roster in 2026.
