STATE COLLEGE — The State College girls soccer team went 3-1 in a week, including a 3-0 win over Cedar Cliff on Sept. 29 at home, a 5-3 victory at Williamsport on Oct. 3 and a 4-1 win over Altoona on Oct. 5 at home.
The Lady Little Lions also lost at Cumberland Valley, 9-0, on Oct. 1.
State College’s Ayda Bayly scored three goals against Williamsport. Her first goal came six minutes into the game off of an assist from Leah Sampsel. With Williamsport holding a 2-1 lead in the final two minutes of the half, Bayly scored again off of an assist from Shae Dwyer.
Three minutes into the second half, Dwyer fed Natalia Andrews, who booted in the goal to give the Little Lady Lions (5-6) a 3-2 lead. With 12 minutes left in the game, Bayly netted the hat trick off an assist from Andrews. Andrews scored her second goal off a beautiful pass from Natalie Rosamilia.
Williamsport scored the final goal with less than 2 minutes left.
“It was a big one for us,” State College Kent Dwyer said. “We’ve been putting together stretches of really solid combination play. Against Williamsport, we didn’t panic when we were down 2-1 on the road. We kept moving the ball and attacking spaces. I’m very proud of the girls’ response. We can build off of this result.”
Bayly scored two goals against Altoona, booting in the last two goals for the Lady Little Lions. She scored with 15 minutes left in the first half and again 23 minutes into the second half off a Sampsel assist.
Sampsel scored the first goal off of an assist from Abbie Lutz. Dwyer scored the second goal about 16 minutes in. Nara Harzbecker scored for Altoona.
“State College played on the front foot from the beginning of the match, pressuring Altoona with combination play and creating multiple chances,” Coach Dwyer said. “Altoona came out in the second half and tried to ramp up pressure. Play opened up quite a bit and there were solid chances on both sides.”
State College and Cedar Cliff were scoreless until the 20-minute mark of the second half. That’s when Lutz took a pass from Bayly and scored. Three minutes later, Teagan Case scored when Taylor Langer dished the ball off. Andrews scored the final goal off an assist from Lutz.
