WINGATE — Bald Eagle Area is off to the hottest start among area high school girls volleyball teams, posting a 6-0 record and dropping only three sets along the way. A key to that success has been a balanced offense.
The Lady Eagles took down Huntingdon 25-17, 25-17, 27-25 on Sept. 7 behind nine kills for Leah Bryan, eight for Taylor Hall and seven for Myia Brooks. Bryan also put up three blocks while Hall delivered a pair of aces, Taylor Habovick gave out 29 assists and Olivia Taylor collected 21 digs.

Habovick distributed 22 assists to go with three aces, Taylor also had three aces, Brooks and Leah Bryan each had a pair of blocks, and Nora Eppley picked up seven digs.
The tightest match of the season came Sept. 11 with a 25-16, 25-17, 20-25, 23-25, 15-11 victory against Williamsport, as Bryan had 13 kills and two blocks, Brooks posted 11 kills, Hall had eight kills, Perry and Olivia Boone each had a pair of aces, Habovick gave out 49 assists and Taylor picked up 15 digs.
“It’s just the way we’ve been playing it out,” coach Zach Rote said of the balanced offense. “Not necessarily a focus, but we have a good setter who is smart and distributes the ball well, and it helps having great hitters as well.”

The Lady Mounties faced some of the state’s best at a tournament Sept. 9 at Wilson, and the state’s No. 1 team in the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association’s Class 2A rankings found there is work to do. They had a 3-5 record during pool play, losing 2-0 to Bishop Shanahan and Southern Lehigh, splitting 1-1 with PVCA Class 3A No. 1 Pope John Paul II and defeating Class 3A No. 6 Twin Valley 2-0. More importantly, our serving and passing numbers were below our season average. We were able to stay competitive throughout the day but just didn’t have enough to get through to the playoff round.”
