STATE SHINES AT ALTOONA CLASSIC

State College got a bit of a psychological upper hand on District 6 archrival Altoona, edging the hosts in both boys’ and girls’ competition at the rain-soaked Altoona Mountain Lion Classic on Friday, May 6 at Mansion Park Stadium.

Many of the teams scheduled to attend pulled out of the meet because of steady rain and several others didn’t send full teams. However, Bellefonte, Penns Valley and Philipsburg-Osceola all competed along with State College.

The meet also was condensed to only three attempts in all field events and no preliminaries on the track.

Both State College teams finished in second place in the Class 3A division. Led by Shannon Mullin, Marlee Kwasnica and Grace Morningstar, the Lady Little Lions scored 92 points, six behind Greensburg Hempfield for the team title and two ahead of Altoona.
