BELLEFONTE — With graffiti becoming a problem in Bellefonte, the borough is looking to potentially install cameras to prevent more from occurring in the park. The borough said it has noticed the same type of graffiti on a bridge and on a building on Water Street. The borough council discussed the issue at the Sept. 17 meeting.
The plan to purchase cameras was in the budget last year, but it was cut do the high cost of high resolution cameras.
“I think one of the concerns we had last year was that the cameras that we could afford, the resolution wasn’t good enough. And so it was after that discussion that we decided to can it for one year,” said borough council president Joanne Tosti-Vasey. A year later the council is looking at it again as a needed solution to a growing problem.
“I think in the budget this year, we have to make it a priority,” said borough assistant manager Don Holderman. Holderman said he and borough manager Ralph Stewart are looking into a way to help remove the graffiti from the borough structures and help property owners who are looking to remove it.
“Just so that it doesn’t stay there forever, we are looking at what we can do” said Holderman. The borough will discuss the matter further in the future. The next borough council meeting will be held Oct. 1.
