Bellefonte Track and Field hosts four-team meet

BELLEFONTE — Bellefonte Area hosted a four-team meet on Tuesday, April 7, welcoming Central, Central Cambria and Penn Cambria for a midseason competition that featured strong performances across track and field events.

The Bellefonte boys defeated Central 95-55 and Penn Cambria 112-38, while tying Central Cambria 75-75. On the girls’ side, Bellefonte earned victories over Central 95-46 and Penn Cambria 111-20 but fell just short to Central Cambria in a narrow 76-74 decision.

The 100-meter dash highlighted strong sprint performances. Bellefonte Area’s Caleb Bartley led the boys’ field with a winning time of 11.71, narrowly edging Penn Cambria’s Isaac Britton, who finished second in 11.74. On the girls’ side, Penn Cambria’s Kate Eckenrode captured first place in 13.25, while Central’s Kyra Smay placed second in 14.38.

In the 200 meters, Britton returned to take the win in 24.41, with Central Cambria’s Braden Miller finishing close behind in 24.52. For the girls, Bellefonte Area’s Madyson Miller secured first place in 28.26, followed by Smay in 28.93.

Bellefonte showed strength in the 400 meters, led by Elliott Donmoyer, who won the boys’ race in 53.78. Teammate Calvin Lovrak completed a Bellefonte sweep of the top two spots, finishing second in 55.31. In the girls’ race, Bellefonte’s Althea Helms earned the win in 1:00.76, with Penn Cambria’s Lily Gergely placing second in 1:03.80.

Middle-distance events continued to feature competitive races. In the 800 meters, Central’s Jacob Heuston took first in 2:07.03, while Central Cambria’s Ethan Haycisak finished second in 2:11.64. On the girls’ side, Bellefonte’s Addison Fry claimed the win in 2:23.57, with Central Cambria’s Paige Alexander placing second in 2:28.51.

Distance races added to the competitive depth of the meet. In the 1600 meters, Haycisak won in 4:43.36, with Bellefonte’s Jonathan Gasper finishing second in 4:45.53. Haycisak also claimed victory in the 3200 meters in 10:14.29, narrowly holding off Gasper, who finished second in 10:18.37.

On the girls’ side, Fry continued her strong day with a win in the 1600 meters, finishing in 5:39.29, while Alexander placed second in 5:44.68. In the 3200 meters, Central Cambria’s Emma Kirsch edged teammate Alyson Sheehan in a tight finish, winning in 15:50.58, just ahead of Sheehan’s 15:50.60.

Field events added to the meet’s strong performances. In the boys’ pole vault, Heuston cleared 12-7 to take first, followed by teammate Jeremiah Hart at 12-0. In the javelin, Bellefonte’s Jack Tyson led the field with a throw of 157-0, while Central Cambria’s Tyler Staruch placed second at 137-4.

On the girls’ side, Central Cambria dominated the pole vault, with Adriana Wanyo winning at 8-9 and Hannah Amigh finishing second at 7-9. In the javelin, Bellefonte’s Madison Miller added another win to her day with a throw of 104-4, while Central Cambria’s Adalyn Gokey placed second at 83-1.

The meet featured several standout individual performances across both track and field events as the season continues to progress, with athletes from Bellefonte Area, Central, Central Cambria and Penn Cambria all contributing to a competitive overall showing.
