PHILIPSBURG — Alivia Bizzarri came through with another excellent overall performance.

Bizzarri led the Philipsburg-Osceola softball team over Penns Valley, 3-1, in a rain-shortened five-inning win on Monday, April 21, at the Curtis Park Athletic Complex.

Bizzarri hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning and drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

In the pitching circle, Bizzarri tossed a three-hitter, struck out five and walked two in a pitching duel against Penns Valley Taylor Bumgardner. Bumgardner only gave up two hits, struck out eight and walked two.

P-O’s Cam Chverchko scored a fourth run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the game was rain delayed in the inning and never resumed. So the score reverted back to the score after the top of the fifth.

Elle Dinges had two of the Lady Rams’ three hits, including a double, and scored the only PV run.

P-O improved to 6-3, while the Lady Rams fell to 4-3.

BELLEFONTE

Bellefonte captured wins at Hollidaysburg, 17-2, in five innings on April 16 and at Glendale, 7-2, on Thursday, April 17.

The Lady Red Raiders pounded out 17 hits against two Hollidaysburg pitchers. Jaylee Lose had another big game, belting a home run and a double, knocking in five runs.

Riley Santostefano went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored. Alaina Smith went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Leadoff hitter Sadie Ripka went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ragan Manning and Adrienne Masullo also had two hits apiece.

Freshmen Masullo and Ella Herr combined on a four-hitter with a combined nine strikeouts and one walk. Bellefonte won the junior varsity game, 19-0.

Masullo and Herr combined on another four-hitter against Glendale while striking out 11 and walking two.

Offensively, the Lady Red Raiders (6-1) managed seven hits against Glendale ace Madison Peterson and took advantage of four errors. Santostefano delivered two hits and two RBIs.

STATE COLLEGE

State College split two games from last week, beating Altoona, 10-0, in five innings on Thursday, April 17, at home and losing to Mechanicsburg, 10-7, at home the day before.

Against Altoona, the 4-3 Lady Little Lions had seven hits and drew six walks. Addison Harpster had a big game at the plate and in the pitching circle.

Harpster had a double, and triple and knocked in five runs. In the pitching circle, she tossed a two-hitter, struck out seven and walked none.

Teammate Sydney Wells had two hits, including a double, from the leadoff spot. Jessica Hawbaker, who walked twice, scored three runs, while Ruby True added a double.

State College fell behind 10-0 after the first four innings against Mechanicsburg, but the Lady Little Lions rallied for two in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh to get to within three runs.

Hawbaker had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Mara Jade McShea had two hits, including a double. Sophomores Sarah Mellott and Kara Shinehart also doubled.

BALD EAGLE AREA

Bald Eagle Area suffered its second and third losses of the season, 7-4, on Saturday, April 19, at Williamsport and 5-4 at Central Cambria on April 21.

The Lady Eagles (5-2) had the edge in hits against Williamsport, 9-7, including the 100th career hit from senior Sydney Thompson, who had three hits in the game. Kailey Eckert had two hits.

BEA ace Sierra Albright struck out 13 and walked four.

“Well we out hit them,” BEA coach Don Lucas said. “Sierra had 13 strikeouts, but she had a very tough second inning where she walked in three runs and a hit batsman. Another run scored when we committed an error at second on a tag that would have ended the inning without a run being scored.

“There was a hit in between, but that runner was eventually walked in. We had opportunities but could not string hits together. It was a very uncharacteristic second inning for Sierra. She shut them out six out of seven but that’s how this game goes sometimes.”

BEA (5-3) held a 4-0 lead over Central Cambria (6-2) until the Lady Red Devils scored five in the fourth inning off of ace pitcher Sierra Albright.

The teams had 10 hits apiece. The Lady Eagles got three hits from Thompson and two hits, two RBIs and a double from Raelee Repasky. Albright also doubled.

Albright struck out six, walked three and gave up three earned runs.
