BOALSBURG — Boalsburg will again be quiet over Memorial Day Weekend this year, as events surrounding the holiday have been canceled due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.

A post on the Boalsburg Memorial Day webpage said, “Ken Corl, president of the Boalsburg Fire Company, Bob Cameron, Director of the Columbus Chapel and Boal Mansion and Jeff Fisher, president of the Boalsburg Village Conservancy and Chairman of the Day in Town in Boalsburg are sorry to announce that the Boalsburg Fire Company Carnival and Parade, planned activities at the Columbus Chapel and Boal Mansion, the Day in Town in Boalsburg on Memorial Day and the Memorial Day race are canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The post said that detail about virtual activities will be release via the groups’ Facebook page. This will include a 6 p.m. virtual service.

A Facebook post said that The Conservancy hopes to hold an event in October, should COVID protocols permit it.

“The event will commemorate the first Memorial Day, which occurred in October 1864,” said the post.

The announcement comes after the cancelation of many other Centre County summer festivals, including The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts and The People Choice Festival.
