STATE COLLEGE —On Monday, May 18, State College Area School Board approved hiring two administrators who are replacing long-time, retiring employees.
Megan Hull will serve as the new Assistant Superintendent of K-12 Curriculum and Instruction. Hull has been director of curriculum and innovation at Keystone Central School District since 2020. The new position marks a return to SCASD for Hull, who previously worked as an instructional technology coach in the district.
She succeeds Christine Merritt who will retire in June after 31 years with the district.

Marissa Schaeffer will be the district’s next Food Services Director. Schaeffer has been a local chef and business owner. She previously served as executive chef of the Nittany Lion Inn and managing chef of the Rolling Lion Food Truck.
She succeeds Megan Schaper, who will retire at the end of the school year after 33 years with the district.
In other business, the board:
- Heard a report from Dr. Susan Swearer. Last year, the district contracted Swearer to conduct a comprehensive review, including an examination of existing policies and procedures related to bullying prevention.
- Approved a low bid of $293,446 from Hilles Carnes Engineering Associates to complete all special inspections required for the new Park Forest Middle School construction.

The board approved upgrades to the playground in April. Playground updates are among the recommendations in the district’s 10-year capital plan for maintenance of district facilities.
- Heard a 2026-2027 budget update. Before the meeting, the board held its public budget hearing. A vote on final budget approval is expected on June 1.
