Board approves work at State High natatorium

STATE COLLEGE — State College Area School Board on Monday, March 16 approved facilities updates and maintenance for the State High natatorium.

The board approved a low bid of $570,850 from HRANEC Corp. to replace the natatorium HVAC system. Administrators said this work will take place over the summer while the pool is drained for maintenance.

The board also approved upgrades to the pool’s support systems. Institutional Specialities will provide a specialty lane timing device and new digital display for $105,000. If It’s Water will provide a new filtration system and a bulk chlorine injection system for $209,507.

In addition, the board will seek bids for mechanical and structural installations. That portion is expected to cost an estimated $245,000.

In other business, the board:

  • approved sharing up to one-third of the cost of a traffic calming study on Valley Vista Drive with Patton Township.
  • accepted the low bid of $55,763 from Lake Auto for the purchase of a 10-passenger van to replace a retiring vehicle.
  • approved the purchase of a robotic arm to support student learning in Career and Technical Center classes. The purchase will be funded by a state Dept. of Education Supplemental Equipment Grant.
  • continued a discussion about Gaggle, a digital monitoring student safety platform the district has piloted for ninth- and tenth-grade students.
