CENTRE COUNTY — Centre Region Council of Governments Refuse and Recycling Program has announced its dates for its fall bulk waste for curbside collection in Benner, College, Ferguson, Harris and Patton Townships.
The waste collection was originally scheduled to take place between Thursday, Oct. 14, through Monday, Oct. 18, but was changed to take place Monday, Dec. 9, through Friday, Dec. 13. During this Bulk Waste Collection Week, no tires or e-waste will be accepted. However, the collection week will accept appliances in addition to other items allowed according to collection guidelines.
“The following items will be collected: furniture, bedding, electronics, appliances, tires, bundled old lumber, homeowner-generated small project construction materials, carpeting, other oversized items too large to containerize,” the CRCOG stated on its website.
To participate in the Bulk Waste Collection Week, all material must be on resident’s curb by 7 a.m. on its regular trash collection day. Larger items do not to be bagged, though smaller items must be placed in a containment vessel like a trash bag or can.
According to the CRCOG, appliances and scrap metal will be collected separately for recycling and residents should properly separate items on the curb prior to collection.
The CRCOG noted that each collection vehicle will only have two workers available during the Bulk Waste Collection Week, so any items that cannot be safely lifted by two people will not be collected.
