STATE COLLEGE — The Centre Area Transportation Authority has announced the launch of its annual canned food drive.
Donation boxes will be available on all CATA vehicles from until Dec. 15, allowing riders and community members to contribute canned goods and non-perishable items to support those in need during the holiday season. A donation box will also be available at CATA’s customer service center in downtown State College.
This year’s drive comes at a time of increased need in the community. Due to recent disruptions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as ‘food stamps,’ local food banks and the individuals and families who rely on them have experienced additional strain.
“CATA has proudly served the State College community for over 50 years, but we are about more than just buses”, said Todd Horsley, CATA’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our annual food drive is an event that we look forward to every year because it’s a chance for our employees and our riders to come together to give back and support our neighbors. If you’re able to donate, we’d love for you to be part of it. Every can, every box adds up and makes a real difference.”
All donations will go to the State College Food Bank and Lion’s Pantry.
