CENTRE COUNTY — Centre County Board of Commissioners voted to make Friday, May 11, through Saturday, May 17, Mount Nittany Health Week. The commissioners took time to thank Mount Nittany Health for the medical services provided throughout Centre County.
In attendance on behalf of Mount Nittany Health was Chief Strategy and System Development Officer Kurt Kissinger, who took time to thank the board.
“This does mean a lot to the team. Mount Nittany Health Week is really our local celebration as part of National Hospital Week, which has been celebrated throughout the United States since 1953.”
Kissinger highlighted the services provided by Mount Nittany Health and the pride that comes with providing those services to the community.
“There are more than 6,000 hospitals nationwide that employ over 7 million providers and caregivers. We’re proud that over the years, we’ve been able to grow and evolve in order to meet the ever-changing health care needs of the community.”
During the meeting, Kessinger announced that there will be a new patient tower opening at Mount Nittany. The new tower will have 168 private beds and is planned to be ready by next summer. The tower will take a portion of the 260 licensed beds in the existing tower and convert them into private beds.
Kissinger mentioned the tower will “Allow us to redesign our workflows to better support the patients and give them the best view of Happy Valley.”
Kissinger also stated the new upgrade will “… improve the care environment by deploying state-of-the-art technology. This was also a testament to the commitment of our staff at the hospital.”
Services provided at Mount Nittany are extensive and all-encompassing. From emergency room services, surgical services, to lab testing and diagnostic imaging, Mount Nittany Health provides a full range of health care services.
“I think we’re so fortunate in Centre County to have a hospital system like Mount Nittany Health,” Commissioner Amber Concepcion said. “It’s really a comprehensive health system. It is not tied to large national groups. This is a health system that is entirely based in our community.”
Commissioner Steven Dershem reflected Concepcion’s praise and showed excitement for Mount Nittany Health’s future.
“If you think about the changes and the growth and the advances in technology and services that Mount Nittany has provided over the years, it is exciting to see what the next chapter will be.”
