STATE COLLEGE — Centre County United Way raised $1,245,459 during its annual fundraising campaign, the organization announced on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
CCUW hosted an event at Centre Care in Bellefonte, celebrating another year of significant fundraising. There, CCUW finance coordinator John Sutilla and Interim Director Megan Evans announced to the nearly 150 in attendance the astounding amount raised in 2024.
Penn State is responsible for over 40% of the total amount CCUW raises each year, and this year was no different. The university raised $525,941 for the organization. Penn State’s Dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications, Faye Chadwell, was there to thank everyone involved.
“Penn State takes pride in supporting CCUW, our charity of choice for more than 40 years,” Chadwell said.
The funds raised by CCUW in 2024 will support programs offered by CCUW’s 24 partner agencies.
“I am delighted with this year’s results and want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed, whether through financial gifts, volunteer work or advocacy,” Evans said.
Additionally, at the event Ja Nae Wian, the CCUW campaign and relationship manager, presented the “Above and Beyond Award for Outstanding Corporate Partner” to Wegmans Manager Adam Fleming.
According to CCUW, 30% of Centre County households are classified as “ALICE,” Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. Another 17% of households in the county live in poverty.
CCUW works with “ALICE” individuals and families, and community donations and support are essential to the organization’s goals.
“We are striving to provide every person in Centre County with the opportunity to thrive, and we cannot achieve this without the community. United is the way,” Tama Carey, the 2024 CCUW board chair, said.
