Commissioners approve items supporting transportation and recovery

Centre County Gazette

BELLEFONTE — Centre County Commissioners on Tuesday approved items that support the county’s transportation and recovery services.

Director of Transportation Dave Lomison presented items related to the Medical Assistance Treatment Program. MATP uses Medicare and Medicaid subsidies to provide medical-related transportation services to qualified Centre County residents.

Although transportation services are not mandated to be managed by the county, the commissioners chose to continue this well-used service.

Each year, Centre County’s MATP gets an allocation from the state. Fortunately, if the service is used to the point that the service exceeds the allocation, the county can still have the overages reimbursed.

One transportation agenda item covered financial details related to MATP to allow the county to be reimbursed $75,167 for services offered in the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The other related agenda item amended the budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year to include psychiatric rehabilitation services.

Cathy Arbogast, Mental Health, Intellectual Disability, Early Intervention, and Drug and Alcohol Administrator for Centre County Government, joined the Commissioners to request approval for contract renewal, providing recovery support through the County’s Drug and Alcohol department.

The contract is between the D&A department and Rule 62 Club, a State College-based recovery and wellness organization. Rule 62 Club offers space for recovery groups, 12-step programs, and other wellness activities supporting people with all levels of recovery needs.

Money from the Opioid Settlement Funds will be used to support the $35,000 contract between the county and Rule 62 Club.
