High School Culinary Arts Event — Friday, April 26
The State College Army Recruiting Company is facilitating the 2024 “Army Culinary Championship” for local high schools. The event at State College High School is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 26. Sgt. 1st Class Brian Colvin is a two-time winner of the show “Chopped” and will assist students with their cooking efforts and judge the food based on creativity and flavor.

Free Shred Event — Friday, April 26
There will be a free shred event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 26, at the Annette Yorks Group — Perry Wellington Realty in Boalsburg. Participants are invited to come to the Annette Yorks Group — Perry Wellington Realty office to meet “Real Deal” Bob Steele from Wowy radio. Donations will be collected for the Harris Township Lions Club Sight Grant. The group will also be collecting old eyewear. The Boalsburg Fire Hall Indoor Yard Sale is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 26, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. AnthroFest 2024 — Saturday, April 27
Explore the human experience at AnthroFest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at University Park’s Arborteum at Penn State. Guests will investigate the many ways humans have experienced and modified their environments over time through hands-on and interactive activities. Some activities will explore cave painting, dog domestication and cognition, hunting and foraging, skeleton excavations, DNA extraction and poetry making, led by scientists from the Penn State Department of Anthropology. A rain date is set for Sunday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Arbor Day Celebration — Saturday, April 27
Ferguson Township is inviting the community to its Arbor Day Celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at Tom Tudek Memorial Park in State College. The township is designated a Tree City USA due to its vast green spaces and woodlands that provide clean air, serving as a habitat for wildlife and beautifying the community. There will be a tree planting ceremony, arts and crafts, a guided tree walk with Ferguson Township arborist Larry Maginnis, refreshments and more.

The Senior Institute Class from Bellefonte High School is raising money for a community member, Jonathan “Peppey” Herriman, to aid his battle with leukemia. The Arts Fest at Bellefonte High School will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. There will be food trucks, raffles, art vendors and kids activities.

Bellefonte Historical Railroad Society Train Rides — Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28
The Bellefonte Historical Railroad Society will offer train rides departing from and returning to the train station at Talleyrand Park in Bellefonte. The train rides will be offered throughout the day on Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28. Destinations include Pleasant Gap, Mill Hall, Dale Summit, Sayers Dam and Tyrone. The Tyrone trip will include a box lunch and a layover.

Climate Care Committee Presentation — Monday, April 29
Raymond Najjar, professor of oceanography in the Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at Penn State, will be speaking at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 29, at Foxdale Village in State College. His program, “Global Warming 101,” will discuss the fundamentals of the planet’s changing climate, including evidence for warming, impacts on ecosystems, contributions of humans and how society’s actions now determine the severity of the threat to future generations.

Bird Walks with the State College Bird Club — Tuesday, April 30
The State College Bird Club and Millbrook Marsh Nature Center invite the public to join a bird walk from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at Spring Creek Park in State College. The walk is free and great for beginner bird watchers. Participants are asked to dress appropriately for the weather and to bring a pair of binoculars.

The Centre County Library in Bellefonte will have trained therapy dogs for children to read to from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, and Thursday, May 2. Curiosity Cube at Discovery Space — Wednesday, May 1
The Curiosity Cube is coming to the Discovery Space in State College from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1. The traveling mobile science lab brings hands-on STEM enrichment activities to students and it’s free. The event is operated by local MilliporeSigma employees and aims to spark curiosity in a new generation of scientists.

WPSU Red Sweater Day — Wednesday, May 1
WPSU is hosting its Red Sweater Day in observance of World Kindness Day from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at University Park’s Penn State Outreach Building. The event honors the legacy of Fred Rogers, who taught love and kindness to children for decades on PBS’s “Mister Roger’s Neighborhood.” Guests are invited to come and meet Daniel Tiger in person, get some complimentary Penn State Creamery ice cream and take a studio tour. Wear your red sweater to be part of the WPSU community photo at 5:30 p.m.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER EVENTS
National Day of Prayer, a day of prayer proclaimed by the president, will occur on Thursday, May 2. The theme for this year’s National Day of Prayer in Centre County is from 2 Samuel 22: 29-31, “Lift Up the Word — Light Up the World.” The following events will occur on Thursday, May 2.
Public Prayer Assembly — Boalsburg Military Museum Flagpole, Boalsburg
A one-hour public assembly for spontaneous prayer will be held outdoors at the Boalsburg Military Museum flagpole on the front parade grounds from 7 to 8 a.m. and from 8 to 9 a.m. Free coffee will be available at 8 a.m. Several leaders from local churches will participate.
Public Prayer Assembly — Talleyrand Park Gazebo, Bellefonte
A public prayer event will be held at Talleyrand Park Gazebo in Bellefonte from noon to 1 p.m. The event is sponsored by the State College Christian Business Men’s Connection, and several local church leaders will participate.
Open Prayer — Park Forest Village United Methodist Church, State College
Park Forest Village United Methodist Church will host an open house on National Day of Prayer. There will be open prayer in the sanctuary from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a service from noon to 12:30 p.m.
