First Day Hike
Bald Eagle State Park, 149 Main Park Rd., Howard, will host its annual First Day Hike from 10 a.m. to noon. Meet at Pavilion 6. Ring in the New Year with a walk in a winter wonderland! Navigate park trails for a 1–2-mile hike and stopping to admire any wildlife or animal signs we encounter. Dress for the weather and anticipate snowy or icy conditions. Trails are flat but will not be shoveled, so wear your boots! This hike is free of charge and fun for the whole family. Family-friendly dogs are welcome, though please note that dogs are required to be on a leash in PA State Parks.
First Day Hike Lake Loop Trail
Black Moshannon State Park, 4216 Beaver Rd., Philipsburg. This annual hike is from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center to look for signs of wildlife along this one-mile trail. The trail is mostly flat with some roots and rocks on it.
UV Night Hike
Black Moshannon State Park, 4216 Beaver Rd., Philipsburg, will host a UV Night Nike from 7 to 8 p.m. See what bog plants glow while using UV lights (provided). Each walk is limited to 20 people.

Discovery Day
Stop by the Children’s Department for a fun craft or activity from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m in downtown State College to make winter wreaths! First come, first served. Supplies are limited. No registration required.

Go & Chess Club
Come to Schlow Library to join people of all ages in these classic games of strategy and patience. This event is in partnership with Happy Valley Go Club, an official chapter of the American Go Association. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a guardian. All skill levels are welcome. No registration required.

First Sunday Opening Reception
Celebrate the opening of the newest exhibitions at Bellefonte Art Museum from noon to 1 p.m. Enjoy refreshments, meet the artist, and explore the galleries at your own pace. This First Sunday reception offers a chance to connect with our creative community, discover fresh artwork, and experience the gallery in a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Music Bingo
Go to Titan Hollow for the January edition of Music Bingo with DJ Troy Breon. Games cover the music from the 60s & 70s, 80’s & 90’s, & 2000’s. It’s free and there are prizes for the winners! Come see why we are the most fun venue for Music Bingo! First game starts at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are recommended between 5:30 & 6:15 p.m. Mention BINGO in the comments to be placed in the room with the action.

Forming Small Habits for the New Year
Go to Schlow Library’s Sun Room from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for staff to introduce various options for organizing, journaling, and decluttering to start the new year on the right foot. Options include journals/planners, apps, and budget-friendly books to help make small changes. The program will also feature print-out templates to create a starter planner. Registration suggested.

Winter Virtual Series: American Black Bear
Join the Bald Eagle State Park naturalist to learn about American Black Bears. We will be discussing bear behavior, ecology, and habitat from noon to 12:30 p.m. Programs will occur virtually on Microsoft Teams. Pre-registration is required on the DCNR Calendar of Events. The program link will be sent in a confirmation email following registration.
