Should College Athletes Be Paid?

A colloquium event sponsored by the Dept. of Kinesiology in Penn State’s College of Health and Human Development will be be held from 3:05 to 4:20 p.m. at 112 Chambers in University Park. This debate will feature two leading experts – Dr. Scott R. Kretchmer, a former NCAA faculty representative, and Dr. Ronald Smith, author of nine books on intercollegiate athletics. Attendance is free.

Detox Workshop

A Detox Workshop will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Centre Church, 119 E. College Ave., Pleasant Gap. Dr. James Yonushonis will uncover the hidden toxins lurking in everyday items we use or consume — from household items to personal care and food sources.

You’ll learn how these toxins impact your nervous system, energy, and long-term health, and more importantly, practical, realistic steps to reduce and remove toxins and support your body’s natural healing process.

Model Rocket Club

Greater Buffalo Run Valley United Methodist church is starting a Model Rocket Club on April 18 beginning at 10 a.m. for anyone between the ages of 10-16. Rockets will be provided and adult supervision to assemble and launch. Contact Pastor Jacobs to reserve a spot at 814-571-5046.

Contra Dance

State College Friends School is co-hosting a family-friendly Contra Dance for the community from 6 to 9 p.m. at the school, 1900 University Drive, State College. Lessons for new dancers begin at 6 p.m. All dances are taught and easy to learn. Ted Crane will call the dances to music by Strath Hanna. Suggested donation is $15 to help cover the cost of the caller and musicians, and refreshments will be available. For more information, email statecollegecontradance@gmail.com.

Watershed Cleanup Day

ClearWater Conservancy’s 30th Annual Watershed Cleanup Day will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at 1601 Houserville Rd., Houserville. Participants will work in small groups for four hours at different sites throughout the region to pick up and properly dispose of litter and trash which will help keep our waterways clean and healthy and our open spaces beautiful. Foxdale Village Garage and Plant Sale

Huge garage sale from 8:30 a.m. to noon with high quality items including jewelry, housewares and kitchenware, home decor and collectibles, holiday decorations, furniture and lamps, linens, appliances and electronics, art and picture frames, games and books, model trains, and more. Also plants and home-baked items.  Foxdale’s upper parking lot, next to Friends School at 1900 University Dr., State College.

Earth Day Projects at Black Moshannon

Projects will start at 9 a.m. at Black Moshannon State Park, 4216 Beaver Rd., Philipsburg, and include winter debris removal, painting, sealing, trail maintenance, gardening, and litter pickup. Lunch will be provided. Free camping is available that weekend for those that help from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All volunteers will need to sign up on the new system at www.pa.gov/services/dcnr/become-a-dcnr-conservation-volunteer. An individual profile will need to be created.

Logan Grange 109 Drive-Thru Soup Sale

Logan Grange 109,122 N. Main St., Pleasant Gap will host a drive-through Soup Sale from 10 a.m. to noon, or until sold out. Soup is $9 per quart. Spring Clothing Drive

Easterly Parkway Elementary School PTO will hold a Spring Clothing Swap in the All-Purpose Room, 234 Easterly Parkway, State College from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come shop for free for your entire family.  Drop-off donations of gently used clothes, shoes, boots, coats, and backpack will be accepted on Friday, April 17 from 3:10 to 7 p.m. on the Blue side of the school and from 8 to 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Earth Fest

Celebrate Earth during the Millbrook Marsh Earth Fest celebration from 1 to 5 p.m. at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center, 548 Puddintown Rd., State College. Spend the afternoon outdoors exploring displays from environmental groups, participating in activities and games, visiting local vendors, and enjoying local entertainment.

Earth and Arbor Day Celebration

The borough of State College will commemorate Earth Day 2026 in Centre County with live music, local food vendors and interactive engagement stations at its Earth and Arbor Day Celebration from 5  to 8 p.m. at Sidney Friedman Park in downtown State College. This year’s event features educational programming and entertainment for community members of all ages. More than 30 vendors from around the Centre Region will table and share beneficial and practical environmental, conservation, and sustainability- related information. Those interested in attending the Earth and Arbor Day Festival can access Sidney Friedman Park via CATA’s AC and RC lines. Parking is also available at the Beaver and Fraser garages.

Good Times Line Dancing

It’s time for another instruction and open requests night for line dancing at Pleasant Gap Legion, 435 S. Main St., Pleasant Gap from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. An instructor will teach a few line dances that vary in experience levels including absolute beginner to intermediate. All ages and experience levels welcome. Food and drink available for purchase. Admission is $5.

Rotary Clubs of State College – State College, State College Sunrise and State College Downtown – are hosting a Discover Rotary event at 6 p.m. at Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate, 341 Science Park Road, Suite 202. This membership drive provides information about Rotary International and the State College clubs and how they make a difference in the local area. Life Groups

State College Assembly of God, 2201 University Dr., State College, hosts Wednesday Life Groups are an opportunity to study the Bible in order to grow in the Christian faith and in relationship with God and others. These groups are held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and are designed so anyone can join at any time and not feel they are behind in the study.
