Thursday, Oct. 1

Blessing of Pets and Animals

St. Mark Lutheran Church, 850 Snydertown Road, Howard, will hold a Blessing of Pets and Animals at 6 p.m. The service will be held under the church pavilion, and also will include remembering pets we have lost. The church also will be taking donations that will go to Centre County PAWS. The service is held in early October each year, around the time the church remembers Francis of Assisi, who had a spirit of gratitude for all of creation, including pets and animals. All are invited to bring their pets or a photo of their pets to the service to receive a blessing. Please have all dogs on leashes. Food Distribution

Food distribution will be held at 5 p.m. at Howard United Methodist Church, 144 W. Main St., Howard. Food is given out to anyone in need and there is no income requirement.

Friday, Oct. 2

Coffee With a Cop

Stop by for coffee and conversations on National Coffee with a Cop Day for some coffee, tea, light refreshments, and most importantly, conversations from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the municipal building lobby, 243 South Allen St., State College. Patrol officers, detectives, and borough employees will be waiting to connect over a warm beverage and talk with members of the community.

Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic

Mount Nittany Health is hosting a convenient drive-thru flu vaccination clinic from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at 1700 Old Gatesburg Rd., State College for community members ages six months and older. Save your spot by calling 814-237-3122.

Downtown State College Farmers Market

The Downtown State College Farmers Market is officially in full swing for the 2026 season. Seasonal veggies, local honey, or fresh-baked goods — everything at the market is grown or produced in Centre County by the people selling it. It is held on Locust Lane in State College from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Penns Valley Charity Partner Event

Liberty Eats will host Penns Valley Charity Partner Event supporting local nonprofits while bringing neighbors together for great food, fun, and community spirit at 2658 Earlystown Road, Centre Hall. Liberty Eats will donate $1 from every sandwich sold to a local nonprofit partner. The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m. Games, music, and the opportunity for nonprofits to set up a table to sell crafts and yard sale goods.

Saturday, Oct. 3

Nittany Valley Benefit Dinner

Nittany Valley Benefit Dinner buffet-style meal will be held from 12 noon to 7 p.m. at 125 Fire House Lane, Howard in Hublersburg. Proceeds from this event will help young families offset some of the costs associated with parochial schools, which do not receive government aid. Walk-ins are welcome as room allows, but reservations are encouraged. Time slots are available every hour. Meals are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors 65+, $23 for children 11-17, $12 for children 5-10. Take-out meals are $22. Children 4 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. Meals include roast chicken and filling, cooked ham, mashed potatoes & gravy, baked beans, noodles and cheese, fresh baked bread, coleslaw, apple salad, creamed celery and a variety of desserts and beverages. Book Fair and Costless Closet Event

St. Mark Lutheran Church, 850 Snydertown Road, Howard, will host its annual Free Book Fair and Costless Closet event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hundreds of free books, media, puzzles, games, CDs, and DVDS will be available to take, along with gently used and clean clothes. Various foods and baked goods also will be available to purchase during the day. The money goes toward St. Mark’s Social Action Committee, which helps individuals and organizations in need in our communities. For those attending, you are invited to bring an unexpired food item or monetary donation to help the St. Mark Food Pantry that serves the region. Lemont Village Work Afternoon

Lemont Village Board and Granary Committee in Lemont is seeking volunteers to assist with fall cleanup projects including: pollinator garden cleanup, labels, weeding and planting; scrape and paint granary windowsills and door trim; hauling brush to Dale Street for township pickup; cleaning out the Dinky Shed and moving junk to curb at Smith’s; weeding myrtle bank along Harris Alley; pulling weed out of bricks at both places near buildings; weed and mulch small beds by stairway and Dinky Shed; rake the bark by children’s slides; gutter repair and cleanout; and remove grass from gravel walkway with vinegar spray or portable blow torch spray. Crew leaders will help with instructions. Fall cleanup will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Families welcome. Cookies and cider and lemonade will be available to workers.

Over There – World War I Experience

Join the Pennsylvania Military Museum, 51 Boal Ave., Boalsburg today and Sunday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Over There: A World War I Experience. This living history weekend allows visitors to explore the different nationalities, cultures, and politics that influenced the First World War. Families can participate in the History Mystery Kid’s Program at 12 p.m. A historic weapons demonstration will showcase pieces used during the conflict at 2 p.m. They Fell Silent, a guided tour of the 28th Infantry Division National Shrine will begin at 3 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Donations are encouraged. Proceeds benefit the Pennsylvania Military Museum.

Chicken BBQ

Chicken BBQ at Baileyville Community Hall, 210 Deibler Rd., Pennsylvania Furnace from noon  to 4 p.m. while quantities last. Eat in or take out. Dinner is $12 and includes 1/2 grilled chicken, baked beans, home-made applesauce, roll, and dessert. One can also buy just the chicken for $7, or homemade apple dumplings for $6. Proceeds benefit the hall’s maintenance and renovation funds.

Medieval Music Concert

Bellefonte Sunday Afternoon Chamber Music Series will present Musica Antiqua of Central Pennsylvania, performing Medieval Music c. 1226. This is for the 800th Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi with voice, vielle, recorders, harp, organ and drums. This will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 128 W. Howard St., Bellefonte.

Free Paper Shredding & Animal Supply Drive

Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority and Centre County Recycling and Centre County PAWS will host a free paper shredding and animal supply drive at 252 Transfer Rd., Bellefonte, from 9 a.m. to noon for a Free Paper Shredding Event & Pet Supply Drive to collect pet supplies for the local Animal Shelter. Touch a Truck

Bring the kids out for a hands-on afternoon of trucks at State College Alliance Church Parking Lot, 1221 W. Whitehall Rd., State College. Climb, touch, explore, and honk the horns as they get an up-close look at some of the trucks and vehicles that help keep the community moving.

North Atherton Farmers Market

North Atherton Farmers Market is held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Home Depot parking lot, 2615 Green Tech Drive., State College. It is a producers-only market which requires that vendors sell only what they produce, grow or make.

Tuesday, Oct. 6

Civil War Roundtable

Civil War Roundtable will meet at South Hills Business School, 480 Waupelani Drive, State College at 7 p.m. Kellie Gormley will speak about “Cease Firing! Life and Death at The Swope Manor.” Kellie will tell the story behind The Swope Manor – a Gettysburg B & B, Lt. Pohlman, the Swope family, and the many incarnations of their house dating back to the 18th century. She will read many of Pohlman’s eloquent letters to home from the battlefields and tell the story of the Civil War from this 14-battle veteran’s point of view.

Wednesday, Oct. 7

Chicken and Waffles Dinner

Wingate Faith Church, 111 Runville Rd., Bellefonte, located behind Sheetz in Wingate, will host a Chicken and Waffles Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Dinners are $10 for adults and $5 for ages 6-12; under 6 are free. Dinners include salad, drink and dessert. Proceeds benefit the church’s upcoming Winter Warm Up free soup event in February.
