STATE COLLEGE — State College Borough and Community Conferencing have collaborated on a series of conversations meant to bring people together to listen and learn from one another on topics pertinent to the State College community.
The inaugural topic will be “The Intersection of Policing and Race.” This event will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. at The State Theatre. This conversation, moderated by Jason Browne and Sue Marshall, will include local panelists answering previously selected questions proposed by the community through a registration and survey link.
According to a press release, the group is eager to hear what the community has to say on this topic and to gather future topics of interest.
PANELISTS INCLUDE:
Iris Richardson, director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Penn State University Campus Police and Public Safety.
Terry Watson, Strategies for Justice.
Dean Woodring, State College Police Department community engagement officer.
Lt. Kelly Aston, State College Police Department.
Nick Pressley, criminal justice reform activist.
Shoba Wadhia, Penn State Law School/associate dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Anton Aluquin, 3/20 Coalition.
Patricia Best, former chair of the State College-Centre County mental health task force (2019-2021).
Following the panel event, a breakout session will be held Oct. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the borough building’s community room for all those interested in further discussing the event and/or proposing future topics.
