STATE COLLEGE — Crisis Relief and Recovery, a Pennsylvania-based disaster relief nonprofit organization, is offering free in-person preparedness training to churches and faith-based organizations across the region. The program helps congregations strengthen safety and readiness in an era of growing threats to both physical and community security.

Led by Dave Hearn, Director of Crisis Relief and Recovery, U.S. Air Force veteran and intelligence officer with extensive experience in crisis leadership and disaster operations, the training draws from official resources developed by FEMA, the National Weather Service, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

The half-day and full-day workshops cover a range of practical topics, including:

  • Understanding local and weather-related hazards
  • Developing family and church emergency plans
  • Building essential home and facility preparedness supplies
  • Providing basic first aid and community crisis response
  • Keeping houses of worship safe and resilient

The training sessions are offered free of charge to eligible organizations and can be hosted on-site at churches or community centers. Sessions are designed to be interactive and accessible for leaders, volunteers, and congregations of all sizes.

Crisis Relief and Recovery has trained and deployed volunteer teams nationwide to assist communities in crisis. The organization now brings that same expertise home to help churches and families prepare before disaster occurs.
