During the offseason …
*Penn State announced that it plans a “major renovation” of Beaver Stadium rather than building a new facility. Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi said extensive research informed that decision.
*There will also be a $7.5 million upgrade of the football facilities at the Lasch Building. This is the next phase of a continuing facilities overhaul.
*Penn State will create a “Legacy Plaza” at Beaver Stadium, next to the south endzone tunnel on Curtin Road. It will honor the long history of Penn State football.
*Penn State’s 2023 recruiting class had a total of 28 players, including 20 four-star players and six three-star. The class was ranked 13th overall, just behind Florida. It was second in the Big Ten, behind No. 4 Ohio State and ahead of No. 19 Michigan.
*So far for 2024, Penn State has seven commits, including the latest addition, Quinton Martin, a 6-foot-2, 200 pound running back from Belle Vernon. The early rankings have PSU at No. 10. Martin is considered to be the No. 1 recruit in Pennsylvania, and this is the third year in a row that Penn State got a commitment from the state’s No. 1 player.
*Former Minnesota running back Trey Potts exited the transfer portal and committed to the Nittany Lions. Potts is from Williamsport and will add valuable depth and experience to the running back position on the team.
*Virginia Commonwealth’s A-10 Basketball Player of the Year Ace Baldwin announced he will transfer and play basketball at Penn State next year. Baldwin was a key part of VCU’s and new PSU Head Coach Mike Rhoades’ deep run into the NCAA Tournament in 2023.
