Nestled in the heart of Centre County, Rooted Farmstead has become a hub of agricultural charm, offering a delightful pick-your-own flower farm and hosting a variety of educational and social events all year round. This season, we are thrilled to introduce our first-ever Diner en Blanc, an elegant affair that promises to be an enchanting evening in support of a great cause. This week, we explore the history of Diner en Blanc and extend a warm invitation to the community to attend this unique fundraiser for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in the fight against childhood cancer.
The history of Diner en Blanc
Dîner en Blanc (“Dinner in White” in French) is a worldwide event in which people dressed in white enjoy a meal at a temporary dining space. Diner en Blanc originated in Paris in 1988 when a small group of friends organized a spontaneous picnic in a beautiful park. They decided to wear all-white attire in order to be able to find each other in the crowded public space and to add a touch of unity to the gathering. Over the years, the event gained popularity, becoming a spectacle of elegance and charm in over 85 cities, spanning six continents.
Our charitable evening for Alex’s Lemonade Stand:
In collaboration with The Cakeshop by Tati, Weston Workshop and Drinks by Design, Rooted Farmstead is proud to present our first Diner en Blanc event in support of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, in loving memory of the nephew of Rooted Farmstead, Mikey Komar. Founded in 2000 by Alexandra “Alex” Scott, Alex’s Lemonade Stand raises funds and awareness for pediatric cancer research. Alex’s story touched hearts nationwide as she set up a lemonade stand to help find a cure for her cancer. Even after her passing at the young age of 8, her legacy continues through funding meaningful research grants and critical family resources.
