The District 5 Little League Major (12u) Baseball Tournament got underway with two play-in games on Friday, June 24.
In those games, Philipsburg-Osceola defeated Four Leaf, 4-2, and BEA got past Curwensville 5-4 in Wingate.
The two winners advanced to the first round, while Four Leaf and Curwensville fell into the lower bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
In the first round on Sunday, June 26, P-O could not build on its victory and lost to Moshannon Valley, 5-2, in Houtzdale. Mo Valley shortstop Brady Mihalko began a three-run inning when he smashed a two-run double in the bottom of the second, and then Mo Valley scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 5-2 lead.
Bo Washell, in relief of starter Harrison Snyder, came in and threw shutout ball, securing the win for MV.
In other first round games, Bellefonte shut out Penns Valley, 7-0; State College got past Nittany Valley, 12-3; and BEA won its second game in a row with a 19-0 win over Clearfield.
Tonight, Bellefonte will visit State College in the upper bracket semi final, and Moshannon Valley will host BEA.
