For those who haven’t had the chance to explore the local attraction, Bald Eagle State Park is set as ClearWater Conservancy’s Centred Outdoors destination for this coming week.

Bald Eagle is a 5,900-acre state park in Centre County — specifically in Howard, Liberty and Marion townships — according to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources.

The area, which is approximately 30 minutes from State College, includes a 1,730-acre lake as well as forests, fields and wetlands. It’s along Route 150 between Milesburg and Lock Haven.

Centred Outdoors’ free guided hikes at Bald Eagle will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13, as well as 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17.

The informative hikes will “explore the biodiversity and interesting trails” at Bald Eagle, according to the Centred Outdoors website, centredoutdoors.org, which is where those interested can find more information.

Some of the features of Bald Eagle include nesting birds of prey and water fowl, pollinators and a 200-year-old oak tree. For bird and wildlife watching, Centred Outdoors encourages attendees to bring their binoculars and will also have binoculars available to use for the day at no charge. Additionally, Centred Outdoors recommends using a water bottle that can hold at least 32 ounces or more per adult.

At Bald Eagle State Park, there are many other options besides hiking to pass time and exercise. For example, families can go boating or fishing on the lake.

For anyone interested in making the trip to Bald Eagle and stay overnight, families or individuals can reserve one of a variety of campsites available online. Reservations can also be made by calling toll-free (888) PA-PARKS (888-727-2757) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Saturday.

If families would rather stay overnight in a hotel, The Nature Inn at Bald Eagle is available for those wanting to make the excursion longer. Information about making reservations can be found at natureinnatbaldeagle.com.

More information about upcoming events through Centred Outdoors can be found at centredoutdoors.org. There will continue to be free guided hikes offered to the public throughout the summer to encourage Centre County locals to spend more time outdoors.
