The Great Insect Fair is back for another year from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Snider Ag Arena on the Penn State campus. Hosted by the Penn State Department of Entomology, there will be activities, games, crafts, educational opportunities and fun.

Oktoberfest at Boalsburg Museum — Saturday, Sept. 20
Oktoberfest at the Boalsburg Museum will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Boalsburg Heritage Museum in Boalsburg. The Little German Band will perform and there will be brats, pretzels, potato salad, cabbage, desserts, wine and beer. Members of the community are invited to eat, drink, dance and celebrate at the Boalsburg Museum. All proceeds from the event benefit the Boalsburg Heritage Museum.

Downtown State College Fall Fest — Saturday, Oct. 4
The Downtown State College Fall Fest is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, along South Allen Street in downtown State College. There will be free pumpkins for kids from Martin’s Garden Center Pumpkin Patch, with a pumpkin painting activity sponsored by Growing Trees Toys. There will also be food, pony rides, games, face painting, a photo station and more. The Youth Service Bureau, local nonprofits and local family organizations will have activities for kids as well.

The annual Dutch Fall Festival is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, and Sunday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Aaronsburg. There will be crafts, art, antiques, vendors, homemade treats, food, educational demonstrations, children’s activities and a quilt raffle.

The Third Annual Boal City Oktoberfest 5K Trail Race will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, at Boal City Brewing in Boalsburg. Kids 12 and younger can run with their friends and parents on the Mini Monster Trail Loop. Dress up for the race to show off your spooky side. Participants 21 and older will get a brew to keep the Halloween spirit going after the run.

Howard Vol. Fire Co. will host the Punkin’ Chunkin’ Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Bald Eagle State Park in Howard. The event features incredible pumpkin-flinging machines, local vendors, and thousands of attendees for a full day of free, family-friendly fun. Punkin’ Chunkin’ is the art of launching pumpkins through the air using catapults, trebuchets, and other engineered contraptions. Each year, teams from near and far show off their custom-built machines and send pumpkins soaring over the lake.
