First Commonwealth awards scholarship to P-O student

Centre County Gazette

INDIANA, Pa. — Eight students from Central and Eastern PA — a total of 40 high school seniors in Pennsylvania and Ohio —received some great news in form of college scholarships as part of First Commonwealth Bank’s annual scholarship program, the bank announced recently.

Kai Thoma, a senior at Philipsburg-Osceola High School, was the winner from Centre County.

A record 1,598 applications throughout First Commonwealth’s 126-branch footprint and business banking centers in Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Cleveland, Canton, Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio were submitted.  To align with the bank’s mission, candidates were asked to share an essay that illustrated their commitment to academics while improving and servicing their community.

Since its inception in 2010, the FCB Scholarship awarded $520,000 to area students.

First Commonwealth Bank is also extremely passionate about our employees and their families. The bank has also created a pool of funds to celebrate the hard work and community dedication of relatives of its employees.

Based on the students’ academic achievement and community involvement, Thomas was one of many selected by a committee of First Commonwealth employees to receive the $1,000 award.
