UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State women’s basketball landed Kiyomi McMiller in the transfer portal, the team announced on Monday, April 21.
The Lady Lions were struggling in the transfer portal after the 2024 season, losing almost the entire team to graduation or the portal. It seems the team’s fortunes have turned around after landing former five-star guard McMiller.
McMiller played her freshman season with Rutgers, averaging 18.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Throughout the season, she earned two Big Ten Freshman of the Week nods, USBWA Tamika Catchings Freshman of the Week and All-MET Player of the Week.
“We’re thrilled to officially welcome Kiyomi to our family,” head coach Carolyn Kieger said. “We recruited her really hard the first time around, so we are thrilled for things to come full circle. From day one of the recruiting process, she showed maturity, hunger and a relentless drive to be great.”
Coming out of Life Center Academy in Burlington, New Jersey, McMiller was the No. 22 player in the country, per ESPN. Her final two years of high school she averaged 30.1 points per game, 5.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.8 steals.
The Nittany Lions were 10-19 in 2024 and 1-17 in the Big Ten, including two losses to Rutgers throughout the season. Their highest scorer was Gracie Merkle who averaged 15.5 points per game. The redshirt sophomore transferred to Maryland this offseason.
