CENTRE COUNTY — In local high school boys’ basketball, only State College and St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy came through with wins on Friday night, and then everyone was washed out on Monday because of the weekend snowstorm.
Things will slowly get back to normal this week with all teams back in action.
Here’s a look at what is happening:
State College 62, Carlisle 53
State College Little Lions put four players in double figures as they steadily pulled away from Carlisle in their Mid-Penn Commonwealth contest at home on Friday night.
The two teams both started on fire and finished the first quarter tied at 18-18, but the Lions defense clamped down before halftime. They held the Herd to just four points leading up to halftime and took a 30-22 lead going into the third quarter.
SC extended its lead after halftime to 11 points to 46-35 before closing the game out with 16 points in the final eight minutes.
Micah James led SC with 19 points, and Chase Rhoades scored 13 in the win. Michael Powell and Spencer Neilson were also in double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively, while Rhoades handed out 7 assists and Parker Thurley grabbed 6 rebounds.
The win was the Lions’ 10th overall against 7 losses and put their Mid-Penn record at 7-4 (third place).
The team was scheduled to play at Chambersburg on Monday night, but that game will be rescheduled. As it is, the team’s next scheduled game will be tonight at home against 11-6 Cumberland Valley and then at 16-2 Central York on Monday, Feb. 2.
