The Being Heard Storytelling Group 2024 Celebration — Friday, Aug. 23
The Being Heard Storytelling Group 2024 Celebration will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, at Centre Care Rehabilitation and Wellness Centre in Bellefonte. Guests are invited to enjoy refreshments and listen to poems and stories from the participants of the creative writing program highlighting the voices of lower-income and older adults in Central PA. The nonprofit organization Ridgelines Language Arts supports the Being Heard program and will celebrate 12 years at the event.
Sunset Concert Series — Friday, Aug. 23
Join Rooted Farmstead in Bellefonte from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, for its Sunset Concert Series. There will be vendors, food, flowers and music. The event and parking are free and open to the public.
Concerts on the Village Green — Friday, Aug. 23
Concerts on the Village Green, a weekly musical performance at the Lemont Village Green in Lemont, will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16. The event will feature the Acoustic Artifacts. Music will begin at 7:30 p.m. Guests are asked to bring chairs and blankets for sitting, and picnics are welcome.
Community Yard Sale — Saturday, Aug. 24
There will be a community yard sale to support local youth from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the University Baptist and Brethren Church in State College. All proceeds will go toward UBBC middle and high school students’ participation in summer volunteer service projects at local and national food banks, homeless shelters, community gardens and other organizations promoting social justice and equity. There will be home goods, kitchenware, furniture, clothing, games, holiday items, school supplies, home decor, furnishing for dorms and apartments and more.
Happy Valley Puzzle Swap — Sunday, Aug. 25
Come and swap your gently used jigsaw puzzles at the Happy Valley Puzzle Swap from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, in the back parking lot of the Walmart on Benner Pike. There will a free raffle for new puzzles too. Participants can arrange one-to-one swaps with another attendee or at the free table. Participants are asked to bag pieces and/or tape up the box as well as label the puzzles with missing pieces or heavy smells.
Worship Service, Book Sale and Signing — Sunday, Aug. 25
There will be a worship service, book sale and signing at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Boalsburg. The church is hosting parent, climate activist and author Lydia Wylie-Kellermann, who will be delivering the morning message during worship service, followed by an opportunity to meet the author and purchase her book “This Sweet Earth — Walking with our Children in this Age of Climate Collapse.”
South Hills Free Music Picnic Series — Sunday, Aug. 25
The next event of the South Hills School of Business and Technology’s Music Picnic Series will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, at the school’s State College campus. The Zeropoint Big Band, a 16-piece band from Central PA, has been delivering a post-modern-retro approach to their music since 2009. The event and parking are free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket for sitting.
Live After 5 — Wednesday, Aug. 28
Live After 5 will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, in downtown State College’s MLK Plaza. Victor and the Icons will be performing at the weekly summer concert series this week.
LION Bash — Thursday, Aug. 29
LION Bash, the community resource fair and block party, is back for another year from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, along South Allen Street in downtown State College. The event is free, and all members of the community are welcome. LION Bash is a partnership between Penn State and the Borough of State College.
