Juniper Village Brookline’s Juniper Reads Books Discussion: ‘The Boys in the Boat’ — Friday, Jan. 10
The next Juniper Reads event will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan 10, in Juniper Village’s Willows Dining Room, in State College. The literary discussion on “The Boys in the Boat” will feature special guest in partnership with the Pennsylvania Center for the Book, former English teacher and Juniper resident, Judy Bedford. The event is free and open to the public, members of the community are encouraged to borrow a copy of the book before the event. Wine Bingo with Beth — Friday, Jan. 10
Wine Bingo with Beth will start at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, at Mount Nittany Vineyard and Winery in Centre Hall. Guests will receive a bingo card with a wine purchase and, depending on the size of the crowd, up to 10 rounds of bingo will be played. The winner of each round will get a $5 gift certificate to go toward a flight, glass or bottle of wine purchase. The Young Scholars of Central PA Charter School is hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the school in State College. Families are invited to visit the school and learn more about the education opportunities for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Friends of the Holt Memorial Library Book Sale — Saturday, Jan. 11
The Holt Memorial Library is hosting a book sale from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, on the first floor of the library building in Philipsburg. There will be hundreds of books available for sale with new ones available every month.

The next concert for the Bellefonte Sunday Afternoon Concert Series will be at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. Sponsored by the Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association, Sarah Shafer, soprano, Timothy Shafer, piano and Elisabeth Shafer, trombone will perform. The event is free and open to the public.
Centre County Ballroom Dance — Sunday, Jan. 12
The November Centre County Ballroom Dance will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12, at Lambert Hall in Bellefonte. Admission is $10 a person and guests are asked to bring a snack to share.
Homeschool Meetup — Monday, Jan. 13
Homeschooling families are invited to the Bellefonte chapter of the Centre County Library from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, in the community room of the library. Guests can get their library questions answered, learn about resources, share tips and meet other parents while kids learn and play together through hands on activities.
Recognizing and Managing Anxiety and Depression in Older Adults — Tuesday, Jan. 14
ACAP Centre County will host its next free monthly educational program at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Centre Region Active Adult Center in the Nittany Mall in State College. The topic this month is “Recognizing and Managing Anxiety and Depression in Older Adults.” The program will help participants navigate aging related anxiety and depression by covering identifying symptoms, understanding causes and communicating effectively with both professionals and loved ones. Howard UMC Soup Sale and Luncheon — Thursday, Jan. 16
The Howard United Methodist Church is hosting a soup sale and luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until supplies run out) on Thursday, Jan. 16, at the church in Howard. Guests can dine in or take soup to go with options of vegetable beef, ham and bean, chicken and corn or chicken noodle. Quarts to go should be ordered by Sunday, Jan. 12, and can be ordered by calling Patti Long at 814-625-2182. The cost is $8 for a lunch or quart to go, and proceeds benefit local missions in the area.
