STATE COLLEGE — Flu season is nearly here, and Geisinger is making better health easier for the community by hosting its annual Super Saturday flu vaccine events.

Certain Geisinger community medicine offices are hosting drive-through flu shot events for patients and Geisinger Health Plan members ages 3 and older.

All Super Saturday flu vaccine events are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Events will be held on Oct. 7 and Oct. 21.

“Some people may not think getting the flu will affect them, but like COVID-19, the flu can be very serious for a lot of people. By getting immunized, you are not only protecting yourself against serious illness and reducing your risk for getting hospitalized but keeping yourself from spreading the flu to others at high risk of severe illness, including children, the elderly and those immunocompromised,” said Dr. Stanley Martin, Geisinger director of infectious diseases.

Flu season typically begins in the fall and lasts throughout the winter, although the virus can be spread year-round. Peak flu activity is generally between December and February but can extend as late as May.

There’s no need to preregister to get a flu shot. When arriving at a drive-through vaccination site, follow all directional signage. You will need to fill out a short electronic form before receiving your flu shot. Stay inside your vehicle next to an opening window — staff will not enter vehicles to provide flu shots.
