STATE COLLEGE — 100+ Women Who Care – Centre County is a philanthropic group that provides an avenue for women to collectively support charitable organizations that serve the community. In May, 100+WWC-CC awarded $11,000 to the Jana Marie Foundation. This award was achieved by 110 women each donating $100.

Meredith Defelice, a member of 100+WWC-CC, nominated the Jana Marie Foundation to receive the group’s May 2022 Impact Award. In her five-minute presentation to the group, Defelice shared that mental illness, unlike other illnesses where families and friends rally around the person to help, is an illness where many people suffer silently, and that Happy Valley has not been spared from its devastation.

Defelice introduced the group to the Jana Marie Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps to build awareness and understanding of mental illness and is committed to promoting mental well-being and suicide prevention in Centre County.

The Jana Marie Foundation delivers educational trainings to help youth, parents, teachers and concerned community members recognize and understand potential warning signs and how to support the young people in their lives. Since incorporating in February 2012, Jana Marie Foundation has devoted its energy to opening minds and saving lives through educational programming and community mobilization to empower young people in the Centre County region. 100+ Women Who Care – Centre County is a giving circle of women whose mission is to use the power of collective giving to make a positive difference in the local community.
