Harvest Home Celebration garners large donation to food bank

Centre County Gazette

STATE COLLEGE —  In a month-long effort as part of its November Harvest Home celebration,  the congregations of Pine Hall Lutheran Church in Ferguson Township and the Gatesburg Lutheran Church of Gatesburg combined to deliver 762 pounds of food and $350 to the State College Food Bank.

The annual “Fill Pastor’s Truck” challenge improved over last year by 139 pounds of food and $120.

Pastor Ted Williams, who serves both churches, said this project is one of several by the churches intended to help in the effort to fight food insecurity in Centre County.  He pointed out that, surprisingly, the hunger problem in Centre County is worse than in his home community of Blair County.

In accepting the food and cash, food bank staff said that donations are especially welcome now with the uncertainty generated by many changes in programs helping low-income families and individuals.
