STATE COLLEGE — The Penn State 2023-24 Humphrey Fellows were the speakers at the November Soroptimist International of Centre County meeting. They spoke about their backgrounds, what enabled them to be so successful, what they were doing in their countries to help women and girls and finally what cultural differences they noticed between the U.S. and their countries. They also answered questions afterwards.

Through the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, professionals from around the world are able to expand their education, occupational experience and leadership abilities through a 10-month stay at an American university. Former president Jimmy Carter started the program in 1978, naming it after the then-recently deceased American politician Hubert H. Humphrey. Humphrey was known as a “longtime advocate of international cooperation and understanding.”

Soroptimist is an international organization whose members volunteer to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
