HUNTINGDON — Huntingdon Area hosted a three-team meet on Tuesday, March 31, welcoming Bellefonte Area and Bishop Guilfoyle for an early-season competition that featured strong performances across sprints, distance races, middle-distance events and field competitions.
The 100 meters highlighted competitive efforts on both the boys and girls competitions. Bellefonte Area’s Caleb Bartley led the boys field with a personal best time of 11.75, while Huntingdon Area’s Ben Slusher followed in 11.97. In the girls race, Bellefonte Area’s Jayla Nau took first in 14.39, with teammate Kaylee Knepp finishing second in a personal-best 14.56.
In the 200 meters, Bartley returned to complete a sprint double, winning in a personal best 23.84 for Bellefonte Area. Huntingdon Area’s Reese Hughes placed second in 24.17. For the girls, Bishop Guilfoyle’s Mary Haigh claimed first in 29.18, narrowly ahead of Bellefonte Area’s Autumn Naspinski, who finished in 29.62.
The 400 meters featured strong performances, particularly from Huntingdon Area on the boys end. Reese Hughes captured the win in 52.75, while teammate Knox Grove followed in second with a personal-best 54.44. In girls competition, Bellefonte Area’s Madyson Miller took first in 1:04.33, with teammate Natalie Jolley placing second in 1:07.74.
Middle-distance events continued to showcase developing talent. In the 800 meters, Bishop Guilfoyle’s Jack Singer earned the win in 2:12.86, while Bellefonte Area’s Jonathan Gasper finished second in a personal-best 2:14.78. Among the girls field, Bellefonte Area dominated the event, with Althea Helms winning in 2:24.81 and Addison Fry close behind in 2:24.93.
Distance races added depth to Bellefonte Area’s strong showing. In the 1600 meters, Jonathan Gasper returned to claim victory in 4:48.21, while teammate Maverick Muchmore secured second in 4:59.94. In the girls event, Addison Fry earned the win in 5:59.69, holding off teammate Anna Tyson, who finished just behind in a personal-best 6:00.21.
Field events saw Huntingdon Area deliver several standout performances. In the discus, Landon Erdman led the boys competition with a personal-best throw of 136-00, while teammate Anthony Rivello placed second at 114-07.5. On the girls end, Huntingdon Area’s Katelyn Kyper earned the win with a throw of 101-10.5, while Bellefonte Area’s Emma Harter finished second at 88-03.5.
In the javelin, Huntingdon Area’s Christian McCall took first in the boys event with a personal-best throw of 129-07, with Bellefonte Area’s Jack Tyson finishing second at 124-08. For the girls competition, Bellefonte Area’s Madyson Miller added another victory to her day with a throw of 115-09, while Huntingdon Area’s Kiayah Walters placed second at 91-05.5.
